All-Ukrainian Symposium-Plenary dedicated to the 170th anniversary of Mykhailo Pavlyk's birth

On June 30-July 2, the city of Kosiv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, the writer's small hometown, hosted an All-Ukrainian symposium plenary dedicated to the 170th anniversary of Mykhailo Pavlyk's birth.

Mykhailo Pavlyk was a Ukrainian public and political figure, writer, translator, publisher, journalist, one of the founders of the first Ukrainian political party, and a full member of the National Academy of Sciences.

The event was held under the patronage of Svitlana Onyshchuk, Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration, and Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

Oreslava Khomyk, Honorary Chairman of the NGO, delivered a welcoming speech: "Today, one of our responsibilities is to preserve the cultural heritage and to honor Ukrainian figures and their legacy. I am grateful to everyone for the excellent organization of the conference, which helped us to understand the work and contribution of Mykhailo Pavlyk to the political, social and cultural life of Ukraine."

Oreslava Khomyk also thanked the participants of the symposium for their contribution to science: "I thank all the participants for decisively moving Ukrainian science and education forward. Your research is a new modern understanding of such a prominent figure in the social and cultural life of Ukraine in the last century."

The event began with a solemn commemoration of Mykhailo Pavlyk at his bust in Kosiv, after which the conference participants gathered at the Mykhailo Strutynsky Museum of Folk Art to continue the symposium.

The scientific coordinator of the conference was Alla Shvets, Deputy Head of the NGO Union of Ukrainian Women, Doctor of Philology, who noted: "If we try to create a holistic image of Pavlyk's life work, we can describe the entire history of our society at that time in parallel with his biography. Because everything that was happening in it, that was being done in the field of national progress, is directly related to Pavlyk's 40-year ascetic work for the sake of "revitalizing the Ukrainian people."

The participants of the symposium were greeted by Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Yevhen Nakhlik, Director of the Ivan Franko Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, representatives of regional, district, and city authorities, and allies of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The conference was organized into four sections centered around Mykhailo Pavlyk's journalistic, statecraft, folklore, and writing activities, his correspondence, and his connections with leading intellectuals of the time.

The participants of the symposium also enjoyed a rich excursion program, including a climb to the Sokilsky Ridge, visits to Kosiv museums, and to the former estate of M. Pavlyk. The presentation of poetry in the bosom of mountain nature by Volyn writer Olena Kitsan was interesting.
