The street of the Union of Ukrainian Women was solemnly opened in Lviv
On May 14, 2023, on Mother's Day, Lviv hosted the grand opening of the Union of Ukrainian Women Street. This is a landmark event not only for the city and the All-Ukrainian NGO Union of Ukrainian Women, but also for the global Ukrainian community.
At the opening ceremony, Orystlava Sydorchuk, head of the Union of Ukrainian Women, congratulated the audience on Mother's Day and thanked them for their respect for the organization, which has been working for Ukraine and its people for a century.
"Today is a truly historic event. Our organization has been writing the history of the Union of Ukrainian Women and the history of Ukraine for 100 years. Our sisters have been united in the democratic movement and have been asserting Ukraine's independence. For 100 years, we have been fighting for Ukraine's independence, and unfortunately, the threats are still the same. And we remember the guidelines of our predecessors: "It is not free for anyone, neither man nor woman, to stand under the current wave with their hands folded - we, women, must become a strong active force." These are the words of Konstantyna Malytska, our chairwoman, who acted during the two world wars. These words are still relevant today. Each of you is active on the volunteer front, on the educational and social fronts. I am grateful for your activities and your active public position. I thank the initiators and the working group for honoring the Union of Ukrainian Women and naming the street after our organization. We have gathered today symbolically on Mother's Day. I want to wish every mother to be happy in motherhood and rejoice in the success of her children. And, as our chairman Milena Rudnytska said: "Ukrainian woman, be a citizen in the home and a mother in society." Today, we bow our heads to the mothers who raised the Defenders of Ukraine, to the mothers of the Heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine," said Oryslava Sydorchuk.
By the decision of the Executive Committee of the Lviv City Council of September 29, 2022, Lobachevsky Street was renamed to Union of Ukrainian Women Street in honor of the largest women's organization in Ukraine, the Union of Ukrainian Women. This is a street in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Lviv, in the Pidzamche neighborhood, connecting Haydamatska and Sofiia Yablonska streets.
The All-Ukrainian public organization Union of Ukrainian Women thanks the deputy corps of the Lviv City Council. The event was also attended by First Deputy Mayor Andriy Moskalenko and Head of the Commission on European Integration, International and Interregional Cooperation of the Lviv Regional Council Natalia Haletska.
"The Union of Ukrainian Women is such a powerful organization that at one time the Soviet authorities banned its activities because they were afraid of it. But this organization was revived and is now flourishing again. I wish you to develop further, to flourish and bear fruit, new projects and new initiatives. The regional council will be with you, because you are the preservation of the identity of the Ukrainian people, the education of young people and our children," Natalia Haletska said in her speech.
We would like to thank the Lviv branch of the Union of Ukrainian Women, in particular its head Lidia Boichyshyn, for the initiative to open the street on Mother's Day, a holiday revived by the Union of Ukrainian Women.
